Prosthodontics is one of the several specialty practices recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA). Dentists such as Dr. Jacobson must satisfactorily complete a two to three year post doctoral training program in order to limit their practices to prosthodontics and identify themselves as prosthodontists. Other specialties recognized by the ADA include endodontics, pedodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, radiology and oral surgery. Representation by dentists as specialists in other areas such as implants, cosmetic or esthetic dentistry, temporomandibular joint disease, ceramic restorations,etc. may be descriptive of personal interests but are not validated through formal post graduate training programs approved by the ADA.

Dr. Jacobson has practiced prosthodontics since 1980 in San Francisco and has since developed additional offices in San Mateo and Santa Rosa. A unique feature of his practice is that the San Francisco office includes an "in house" dental laboratory. Three technicians trained in the various fields of laboratory procedures custom fabricate the fixed and/or removable, metal and/or ceramic, conventional and/or implant supported crowns and bridges exclusively for patients of Dr. Jacobson. The "in house" laboratory enables patients to meet with the ceramist regarding tooth size, shape and color. Repairs and modifications of existing prostheses and restorations may be completed on the premises in a timely and efficient manner. In addition to our technical staff, Dr. Jacobson's front desk appointment coordinator and chairside assistants are available to provide attentive, comfortable and efficient scheduling, billing assistance and administrative support.
The new San Francisco office was designed and completed in 2004. It includes all new laboratory and operatory equipment, instruments and materials. Each treatment room is equipped with dental restorative units featuring "state of the art" handpieces, adjunct lighting and equipment. Computer hardware and software were newly installed also in 2004 as were intra oral digital cameras and operatory monitors. Exceptional patient comfort features such as customized audiovisual entertainment, comfortable dental chairs and warm moist towelettes help to enhance the overall treatment experience. Dr. Jacobson and his staff are fully compliant in exceeding the current state and federal HIPPA & OSHA requirements.
Dr. Jacobson maintains a dental hygienist in order to provide ongoing periodontal maintenance for patients following completion of definitive, restorative or periodontal therapy. Patients may also elect to return to their referring dentist for ongoing routine periodontal maintenance or decide to alternate such recalls between the referring dentist and our office.
The San Francisco office is conveniently located in the 450 Sutter St. Medical Building between Stockton St. & Powell St. on the 26th floor. Valet parking at a resonable price is available on the ground floor. The panoramic views from our treatment rooms facing north, west & south are spectacular and assist in contributing to a comfortable experience for our patients.
